Open the case of your system. After that you need to look at the card which means you might have to remove it to look at it properly. Once you know the manufacturer and the model you can goto the website and get the drivers there.
Pay special attention to the installation instructions. Ati for requires the Dot NET 2 or higher from Microsoft but since being bought by AMD they don't show that except in the instructions. There is also Nvidia and a few others.
The whole process can take as long as an hour.

to get the correct video(graphic) driver for your system you must first find out the name of your video card,,,to do this right click desktop>properties>settings>advanced>adapter and the name of your graphic(video) card will be there and also the cards memory(ram)
most of the time it will be either nvidia or ati, then you need to go to the respective website and download the current drivers
here are the links for
NVIDIA : http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
A.T.I : http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
both these websites have a easy to use interface ,just pick your version of windows, then your type of card and then press go,this will then direct you to the page with the download link on it ,,simply download the file and once saved double click the icon and install the driver
NOTE: allways remove any old or current drivers you may have installed before you install a new or updated driver,as installing a new one over a old driver can sometimes cause conflicts
if you are using intergrated graphics(on-board) ther are a few other drivers avalible that do intergrated graphic drivers, allthough nvidia and ati do intergrated graphic drivers so do s.i.s/s3/matrox and intel so here are the links to their websites and driver downloads
S.I.S : http://www.sis.com/download/agreement.php?url=/download/
S3 : http://www.s3graphics.com/en/resources/drivers/index.jsp
MATROX : http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/corpo/support/drivers/home.php
INTEL GRAPHICS : http://downloadcenter.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=10099
if you havent updated your video driver before and have used the driver that came with your computer(which is what 50% of all users do anyway)you will notice a marked improvement in quality of the graphics,i tend to update my drivers about every other month, this makes sure that your graphics in games ect are allways at the best quality
i hope this has helped you ,but if you need any help with any future problems i will be more than happy to help
good luck mate

If its a new pc you should have a driver disk for the driver, other way is go to system properties and look for the card you have installed in device properties. If it is not showing try and run the add hardware wizard and let windows try and find you a driver,,you must have your driver disk if you have one if not go to the manufacturer's web site and look for you card drivers.

The video driver you use depends entirely on what video card you've got in your machine. Go to the website of the manufacturer of your video card and download the latest driver from there.

Visit Belarc Adviser for a complete run-down on your machine, then try the card manufacturers' website for a driver.

Or visit DivX and you might find it on there.

I feel your best bet is to go directly to the Microsoft update page. Get any and all updates. You may have to reboot and go back to the page to make sure you get them all.
