Well it's hard to think of an idea that hasn't been done before since just about everything has been done. You either conceive of a futuristic world where there are no trees left (which may be accurate at the rate we're going, depleting our resources) & nothing but skyscrapers concrete, steel & glass, everything dressed in plain almost uniform-like outfits, flying cars, robots etc. Or you see a world where they almost go back in time, no electricity, live primitively wearing rags etc. It could be a post-Apocalyptic world after a nuclear war. It could be a disease-ridden world. It could be a world of clones & genetic experiments. It could be an anarchic lawless, violent society with people battling for limited resources like oil (wait, aren't they already warring over that? Or inventing wars so they can rape countries of their oil...) like Mad Max. Or it could be a highly structured, government run society with strict rules...so many possibilities but they've all been done.
Hey you could have humans evolve into strange creatures. If we evolved from apes into cavemen (if you're into that kind of thing) it stands to reason that we might continue to evolve since we are no longer hunter gatherers. Maybe our eyes would get bigger from watching too much tv, we'd grow more fingers to type on the computer faster. Or even grow an extra arm! Maybe we'd start to look like aliens...or you could write about aliens, life on other planets. The possibilities are endless. But again, they've probably been done.
I guess you just have to decide what you want to write about. Where do you think the world is heading? Where would you like it to go? Where are you afraid it will go?
The Island with Ewan McGregor was an excellent movie. Interesting concept.
I guess the important thing, no matter what your idea is, even if it's something that's been done is to make it your own & give it a unique spin.
Good luck!

Assuming you're young, you will probably still be alive in 2068. Try imagining yourself at this age. Further, there are certain things that can be taken for granted and will still be a factor in your book. Regardless of what happens to us between now and then, all of us will still need to loved and be loved, fed, housed and clothed.
If trends continue, cancer might be eliminated and the average population will be older, but we will probably have to deal with more cases of Alzheimer's. Technology will undoubtedly improve and telecommuting will probably become the norm. On the other hand, by then several major wars will probably have been fought over dwindling resources, and its possible people may have been brought low enough to realize we need to work together or more wars will occur.
I strongly suspect that due to nearly unavoidable strife, unless one of the major religion's prophecies is correct and some form of messiah will have come, impersonal (I'm right, your wrong) religion will have lost its hold on most of the population, and there will be a deep quest for a personal relationship with the universe, and any deities that actually do exist.

Your own imagination is a good place to start. If you are authoring the book you should have a good idea of what the illustrations should include and the overall "feel" of how you'd like your readers to imagine the year 2068. The great authors work WITH illustrators to help them project the final visions. Good luck on your book and God Bless!
