I am currently 1 1/2 years into my college 2 year transfer program. I plan on transfering to a 4 year school within the next year. I started school about 7 years ago and wasn't putting everything I had into it. I ended up quitting for a couple of years due to the birth of my son. I reenrolled through work to complete a 4 year toolmaker apprenticeship program. I finished and now want to go into medicine, however my GPA is very low 2.26. I just finished fall quarter with a 3.80 and know I can get good grades throughout my 4 year degree. Has anyone started out with a low GPA and still made it into med school? Is it possible? Will retaking classes that I received low grades help?

I had a low GPA during my freshman year. I did well after that. I would have graduated with honors had my Freshman grades not kept me down.

I did not go to Medical School. However, I did get accepted into a top 15 PhD program right out of college.

When you apply to Medical Schools, you will have an opportunity to address your bad first year in your cover letter. If you are able to continue to get 3.8 -- they may overlook your first year. Only retake classes that you did poorly in if they are required for Medical School.

confident. collectively as a GPA is powerful to have, different issues could make up for it. events, volunteer artwork, attempt rankings, etc. in actuality, a lot of human beings, even with having a good GPA, would be became away because of the fact they are not nicely rounded. I advise you concentration on your MCAT to make up to your GPA (although your GPA is powerful, on condition that its above 3.0). initiate paying for learn supplies for the MCAT and attempt to earn a score (on the prepare tests) of approximately 10-12.

I may be a Junior in High School, but I had a friend who was in your situation. You might be able to if your score high enough on the MCAT exam..talk to an admissions officer and explain to them your problem. If all fails, join a military branch and ask them if they would be able to put you in a medical program.
