I have a program called LP Recorder that I used a few years back to convert vinyl to mp3, should be able to do the same thing with cassettes.

you need to go through the really labourious task of converting them all to digital. For this you will need a Jack to Jack lead to plug from you ipod to your sound input on your PC. You will need to get a sound recording software, loads of free ones. and then you need to record every song, one by one, at real time. and then convert down to Mp3 or aac format to save space.
i wouldn't bother as the sound quality on the tapes will be pants. Just do it to the ones you cant replace or live without

You just need your tape deck, the correct lead to plug into your soundcard and some software (audacity is free available from above - you will also need the extra dll file for converting to MP3
