It's human to form links between your experiences to songs or movies.
For example, I'd always wind up crying when listening to Here Without You (3 Doors Down), Tallulah (Sonata Artica) and Iris (Goo Goo Dolls) because they'd remind me of a really bad breakup.
Or when I listen to Get Down On It (Kool & The Gang) and Can't Touch This (MC Hammer), I'll remember my high school mates and all the great times we shared!
It's past midnight here and wherever you are, have a happy day!

That is True! The songs that I listened to, growing up, I can remember where I was living, the year(pretty much) and what I was doing during that time period.
Maybe I should listen to music more now. My memory might be better Lol!!

Because you remember what you were doing when the song was popular. You remember where you were and who you were with. Other songs bring back memories because the lyrics might apply to where you are in your life or how you feel about someone.

That's how the brain works. Since we were born , we have been accumulating memories, some of them don't disappear.
Sometimes the lyrics of certain songs have something to do with past experiences we had, and that's why we bring back some memories.
Another reason why that happens is because maybe there was a song playing when something in your life was happening. When we hear that song again, we remember what happened when the song was playing.
I know, it sucks sometimes.
It reminds me of Ne-yo's song "so sick". (haha)
And I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing you were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?
Gotta fix that calender I have
That's marked July 15th
Because since there's no more you
There's no more anniversary
I'm so fed up with my thoughts of you
And your memory
And how every song reminds me
Of what used to be
That's the reason I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing you were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?

Good morning to you too - songs bring back good memories probably becuase of what was happening in your life around that time or because the song may have related to what was happenin around that time

Yeah, I like that when I'm brought back in time, sometimes it's good and sometimes you don't want to remember the past, the good thing is it keeps your mind sharp, you want to keep your memory as long as you can, it starts slowing down, and you find your self saying, gosh I remember that song but who was I with and where was I.

Because when you listened to that song previously you may have had good or bad thoughts and connected it with the words.
The same thing happens to me if i am driving some place and when i pass a specific area i will remember what i was talking about when i was last passing by.

normally if a song brings back memories its b/c uve heard it b4 (during a time period when something is happening 2 u good/bad) or just b/c the situation being described in the song resembles something uve been through. its lovely when music relates to something b/c it makes you even more emotional then just a good song : )
