In search of decent salary, I planned and applied to study dental hygine. In 2007, I will be the only male out of the 36 students accepted in the program. But where are all the males? Or, am I knocking a wrong door?

i think that is a good career for anyone, either gender,,,,,, though it, like nursing and kindergarten teacher, is probably still majority female,,,,,,, which is fine, you will be unique

Dental hygenist positions are usually portrayed as being for women (don't know why, but that's what I've seen from experience) kind of like being a secretary, so I guess alot of males would not consider it. But I think that it's a great opportunity for you. Maybe alot of males DID sign up but did not get accepted. You should be proud of you were one of the few selected. If this is what you REALLY want to do, go for it!!!

No, you should persue your career. I don't know of any men who wouldn't be thrilled to be one man with 36 females. I think it is wonderful that you may start a new profession for men. I work at an elementary school,we have 2 male teachers and all the rest females. I see students responding to the male teacher in a postive way. We could use more men in elementary schools. So maybe the people would respond to you in a positive way also. So Good Luck and don't give up your dream

i would not base a career on salary only...nor should you worry if you are the only male deltal hygenist. you will be just as good as a female. who cares if you are the only male graduating in that class. What about the female police officers and firefighters..not to mention the male nurses? gender does not matter if you are totally happy with the career path that you choose. oh if forgot..what about the male fashion designers?? there is nothing wrong with that....follow yur dreams...this is the rest of your life.

I'd run like crazy if I walked into an office that had one. I actually did run out of an office that had a boy dental assistant.

Thanks, but no thanks.
