In the 70's it was ok, people were healthier, not obese and more soiciable. They were happier.

What next? make perfume illegal ? I know i can stand it when i smell strong perfume and I have to hold my breath, or what about certain colours ? make yellow t-shirts illegal ? because i dont like to see yellow ??

The sad part is people are still believing that its bad for you but driving around in a car which is chuffing out tons of toxic fumes that would kill a child in 10 minutes in a locked garage is to be promoted all the time on tv.

Im 33 and have talked to maybe 10 000 people.

I have never knowingly met anyone who knows anyone who has died from cancer, but i estimate that around 8000 of those people smoke or did.

I hear people stories about 'my grandfather smoked until he was 97' lol. (but never of anyone dying from it)

I also hear 'It was such a shame, she never smoked or drank alcohol in her life but just dropped down dead at 25'

I think the P has been taken, the demonizing of tobacco has made a lot of money for some people and made many more unhappy.

Have you not noticed that they say everythin gives you cancer ?? If there is enough intrest in the story it will be carried further and made into a money making scheme.

Some other things that cause cancer according to certain so called scientists -
bread,
mobile phones,
lighting,
electricity cables,
sunshine,
oil,
skin moles
lead grilled meats
viruses
T.V.

246 things according to the U.S. gov

"The things that we can do to prevent cancer are incredibly boring," says Dr. Buckman, a professor of medicine at the University of Toronto.

"If you can demonstrate that something everybody does has a chance of increasing one of the rare cancers, whether it's true or not, you sell newspapers. It's exactly like Jaws ... in which the premise is going swimming can lead to your death by shark attack."

People will believe anything they're told. They never have a thought of there own. There is NO, I repeat, NO, scientific evidence that second hand smoke causes any harm, NON. If some idiot told them that second hand farts would kill them, they'd set up a big brother network to bust everyone for farting.

It's true. Obesity in America is going to kill a lot of people soon, and nobody says anything about it. Actually, it's not PC to tell people slow down on the chips. I'm not saying people should make fuh of them. BUt getting a healthy eating habit is important. And what about parents who let their kids eat sweets and chips all day long when they are already overweight (or even if they are not). But of course, if people stopped eating bad food, I think the American agro business would be in danger!

I know that smoking is bad: I'm trying to stop. But unhealthy eating habits is not much better!

Smoking isn't illegal. But, it does cause disease. People were happy and healthy in the 70s because they didn't have lung cancer yet. My grandmother died of lung cancer from smoking. I don't think we do enough about cars. There should be more hybrids. Also, smoking can make other people sick. Perfume doesn't kill, nor do yellow t-shirts.

Have you ever known people who have died of lung cancer? Have you ever seen what a person's lungs look like when they have smoked for years?

You can make all the far reaching comparisons you want, but it won't alter the fact that smoking KILLS.

Okay, perfume doesn't get arsenic and carbon monoxide into your lungs. And about another thousand other chemicals. Smoke makes my clothes stink, my head ache, and my eyes water. It stinks so bad and won't leave your clothes even if you were around a smoker for a few minutes. Car exhaust escapes because you are outside and it defuses in the air. Smoke usually hovers around the area, and if indoors there is no where for it to escape.

This is a case of improving step by step...cigarettes should be the first step since it is so prevalent...i just step outta my house n i can smell my neighbour smoking...then the coffeeshops...it affects health directly n it causes unwilling party to breath in the toxin!...it is selfish to ask them to stop breathing so that u can smoke right? Furthermore biocars are now appearing already...things do change as people realise the irreparable n harmful effects...as u say it u already know that it is illogical to ban yellow t-shirt or anything along the line right...?

Smoking takes the oxygen out of the lungs. This can never be recouped. It is hazzardous to health and been proven to be so. Families with heart conditions that kill, or families with cancerous conditions that kill will certainly belie the benefits you claim. Yes, cars are spewing out polution...but why add to it?

I am a smoker and I refuse to follow the rule that they've come up with at the hospital that you can't smoke in the grounds. This is taking it too far. I do think its reasonable though in enclosed spaces and buildings.

yes your right,in the 50's everyone smoked and you hardly ever heard of asthma, now hardly anyone smokes in public because it is frowned on ,asthma statistics are going up all the time.

So it has to be because of exhaust fumes, because there are more and more cars on the roads.
