An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

the internet is still in its trial period, allthough its seems to have been around for years its relativitly new, well in terms of broadband internet anyway
internet slow-down is caused by a few reasons, one is network traffic, when you go online the traffic is probally alot less than when you finish so actual connection speeds will be different from when you logged on earlier
i have a connection speed of 8m/bits but what i actually get is only 3.5m/bits and at peak network traffic, this will drop to 1.5m/bits so you will never get your actual spped
another factor is distance from telephone exchange, the further away you are the less your connection speed
finally your speed can also be affected by not adhering to your i.s.p,s rules and regulations, for example if you have a 10gb download cap and you have gone over by 5gb you may well have your connection speed halfed to stop you downloading as much soo you dont exceed by too much
unfortunately in the u.k we are years behind the rest of the world, for example in south korea broadband is channeled into every property like the way we get electric, gas and water and their average connection speed is 50m/bit,and if you are willing to pay this can go as high as 100m/bits,this would give you a download speed of around 25mbytes per second,so you would be able to download the doom 3 demo in only 16 seconds!
you can alter the streaming spped of your videos but anything below 100k is not much kop
i hope this helps

Some ISP's throttle back the service provided to a user after a certain amount of use, so that others get their fair share.

Could just be the "rush hour" on the 'net. Worth cleaning your system of temp files, cookies etc, though. And run an anti-virus.

Maybe you have a lot of temp files stored, or lots of cookies or maybe by the end of the day there are a lot of users on that server so it slows down.
