First of all they promote anybody to be supervisors. No training no experience. Some can't read, some can't speak the english language. Some are like the bullies in your elementary school. They talk about people behind thier backs, they tell all your business to everyone (it's supposed to be private) they conspire to harrass employees. Did you know you are supposed to work 8 hours a day and not talk to coworkers unless it's break or lunch. 10 hour days are often mandatory. No talking remember. They have a I only want to see backs and elbows joke. No talking. They stand around all day laughing and talking but if they see you talking they say be quiet and get back to work. They threaten they will fire you or write you up without hesitation, they know they can't but they think that is the power they hold over you. Some of the supervisors are real idiots. The reason most people put up with it because it's a nice paycheck and you have alot of security. Other jobs aren't so secure. They also know the way they treat people the pay and security is the only reason people stay. Take away all that good stuff you wouldn't have a postal service the way it is now. Bad service, missing mail, who has my check?, no one place to check on your mail. Mail dumped in garbage cans. Mail delivered once a week at a much higher cost per letter. I know if I lost the money and security there'd be no reason to stay and put up with it. They expect each 8 hour tour to work over a million pieces of mail. If they don't they get seriously clowned by the supervisor who is suppose to get the numbers not be anybodies best friend or have any sympathy. And no talking. The post office is now going through a transition to close post offices, reduce mailmen, clerks, and jobs. Don't be surprised to see your mailman at 6 oclock at nite after the bank has closed. Complain to your democratic congressman. They are trying not to erode the postal service as much as the republicans are. But then again everyone complains about the post office not being efficient. I say we do a hell of a job with the resources we have. Remember always use a return address and always use postage, write so everyone can read what you wrote as an address make sure the address is correct, don't use a zip code if you don't know it. Your mail will be delayed if you use a incorrect zip code, it will be sent to that city and then have to be worked by hand to correct the zip code and then remailed. Most people cause their own problems with their mail that's what makes mail so slow.

Well... I don't know about all Postal Workers but my dad had a heck of a time and it really affected our whole family. My dad was a clerk and he did a very good job. He became involved with the American Postal Workers Union and later became the President. The management couldn't stand him. He was very good at the role of President and never lost one case that he handled. He later became a Delegate for the State we live in. My father did nothing wrong but fight for what is right for the workers of the Postal Service and he did it all legally. Our family would receive prank phone calls (some very disturbing). Later we found out they were coming from an employee of the Post Office in a managerial position. My father had a car accident due to someone loosening his lug nuts on his car. Again... a manager from the Post Office. They had my father arrested for entering a Post Office that he had every right to enter (He was doing his job). He ended up on the front page of the local paper and the article told of how the Post Office unlawfully had a Union President arrested. Police and lawyers ended up being required at all union meetings because of the "problems". When my father had to go on medical leave... (because of physical issues and a heart attack... hmmmm...) The Post Office didn't pay my father until a few years later. They were supposed to pay him from the git go. On top of that and because of that my father's cars were repossessed because he had no money coming in to pay for them. They Post Office cancelled his insurance (illegally) -- When much medical attention was needed... and my father also lost his home. After much stress and fighting for his rights he was paid his earnings back to the time of his medical leave, his insurance was reinstated back to the cancellation date and he now receives a retirement check from them. The one thing he didn't get back was his health. He is already damaged and nothing the Post Office can reinstate will bring back his health. Yes... I believe situations like this (that happen more than anyone will ever realize) cause Postal Workers to go "POSTAL". They don't have the saying for no reason. There is much reason behind the phrase. I'm just thankful my dad had enough of a level head to refrain from shooting the awful people that caused my family and father so much pain and grief. I hope that helped you understand. Have a beautiful and blessed day!

Why Do People Go Postal

2017-01-18 21:39:51 · answer #3 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Postals are known to shoot up Post Office depots because they get a lot of publicity when the Post Office is the central common fact. About 15 years ago several "went postal" at sorting centers within a few months of each other, as many were shot in Bars, banks and other buildings but went unconnected.

Going under cover in the post office for just this reason I can tell you this......

The reason some of them tend to go crazy and shoot everybody up is because A. The management and the supervisors don't give a flying **** ABOUT YOU!!!! They treat you like straight garbage constantly talking about with other superiors and giving you **** to your face in the worst ways possible ( think of a high school bully or a prison guard ) the whole time thinking it's extremely hilarious believe me I KNOW, "do this, do that, hurry up, it's all wrong, do it again, what? What'd you say? That's what I thought" even if you do everything right and perfect. I mean really this is how you treat people??? WTF?!?!? And it's not just certain people it's everybody. B. They don't bother to check anybody's background out thoroughly, I mean I got in with out almost any info, or questions they didn't even bother to call my previous employer because if

If they killed "everyone" you wouldn't be asking this question because you would be dead.

After the Vietnam war, a lot of the veteran's coming home had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - something that used to be called "shell shock" in WWI. On U.S. Postal exams military veterans are given an extra 5 points on their exam, so more Vietnam veterans got in to the postal service. Because the postal service can be an extremely high stress job (especially at this time of the year!), a lot of the postal workers broke down under the stress and "went postal". This is where the origin of the term comes from. It does not happen much anymore at post offices, but you will see the same thing happening at factories from time to time with people who have just "lost it" and "go postal".

Because management/supervision in the postal service is very authoritarian and sadistic. They play games with people's minds. This happens throughout the federal civil service system. I am surprised this isn't more of this "crazy" reaction to this.
It is really sad . We are supposed to be living in "the land of the free..." yet our government and many corporations rule their workers like Nazis.

Postal employees don't go crazy any more often than any other segment of the population. That's a myth.
