The way our present judicial system seems to work, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it's at least been tried. Here's the odd thing about PMS. I wasn't born in this country, but got "adopted in" later in life.(and proud to be here) I've travelled the world, and neither in the country of my origin, or anywhere else I ever visited or lived, did I hear all this PMS talk till I came to America and discovered it seems to be cited as the cause of just about every behavioural female quirk that the human mind has been able to find a name for.
I don't question that - just like every natural human physical condition, there are going to be some people who have more than average problems during the menses. But it still remains an interesting observation that I NEVER heard any women, anywhere else in the world reeling off such a laundry list of "awful problems" This isn't condemnation, I am just reporting an honest personal observation - pondering on this phenomenon over many years, I have come to the conclusion that it has a lot to do with the fact that from virtual babyhood, female children are exposed to a barage of commentaries, suggestions, and information - that from the time you start having your periods, you are going to have to deal with aaaaalll these various "nasty problems" Now, we know for a fact what effect "expectation" can have on the human psyche. It has been demonstrated many many times with the "Placebo Effect" where half a study group is given a particular drug, and another half a Placebo -a pill with absolutely no active ingredient in it whatever. Oftentimes a significant number of those who took the "nothing pill" reported a dramatic improvement in whatever the symptoms had been. Not knowing they had been given a placebo, they expected, and anticipated a beneficial effect. The mind telegraphed that expectation to
the body, and voila!
You have a pre-menstrual girl who has been hearing from sisters, aunts and other older females that they are having this and this and that "horrors" with their menstrual cycle, and my contention is that THIS is in a great many cases the cause of all this PMS "suffering" that we have in this country. Sure there is a bit of hormone fluctuation at that time of the month, and most women are going to feel some effects from that. But give me a break - use it in a court of law to explain "why I stabbed my husband in the chest with the carving knife" "why I went shoplifting" "why I burnt the roast and threw it through the kitchen window in a fit of frustration" ? - pull my other leg!
Nobody is ever going to convince me that a perfectly normal biological human function EVER made a woman do anything that she wasn't already predisposed to do because of an existing personality trait. When I was approaching the time for my first menses, my mother matter of factly reminded me that it was "just normal, and no more of a problem than having to respond to the daily bowel movement LOL. I did not look forward with apprehension and anxiety to that event, and I never had any problem. Furthermore, none of the girls my age... or later my women friends and acquaintances ever did either. We had an occasional "cramp" but we knew what it was associated with, and we didn't blow it up into a huge deal. I think of more mothers would play it down with their pre-menstrual daughters, and instead of emphasising the "horror stories" emphasise instead the fact that it's a, normal, natural body function that is no more than a temporary inconvenience, we'd be hearing a lot less "horror stories"

Not sure, but I remember reading somewhere that hormonal imbalance in pregnancy has led to an exception for pregnant women that allows them 1 unprosecutable stabbing while pregnant as extreme hormone unbalance can be grounds for a temporary insanity claim...not sure how true this is, but thought it was hilarious when I read it - watch out guys! lol...since pms is also hormone-related it could very well be possible in answer to ur question.

What is PMT?? Do you by chance mean PMS??? And even so, no, it couldn't be used as a valid defence. In my opinion, PMS seems to be more and more relevent than our mothers before us. I could be wrong, but it seems that way to me.

I like the fact that you're getting attacked for calling it Pre menstrual tension instead of pre menstrual syndrome, which are both correct and commonly used, but mean the same thing.

I wonder if PMS/PMT is the excuse for their stupidity..
