Students fail in college because there is so much going on in their lives that they have to compromise so much. Students are concerned about their future, but there is much more to their future than just their careers - students are also thinking about dating, friends, and just fitting in to the world. I think every student fails at some points, but its the students who get back up and try again and again who eventually succeed.

Often time the pressure to pay ever increasing tution combined with administrative incompitence on the part of various college financial aid departments result in students dropping out. Also family and friends often for whatever reason often do all the can to interfere with the ability to attend college also resulting in said student dropping out. Another thing that traditional colleges fail at is serving the growing adult student population, they fail to realize that not every student is the fresh out of high school variety.

I think it has to do with the sudden changes in social structure. In first year you are subjected to many more types of people and tons of parties which include various elements. For alot of people, it's all new and experimental and really who wouldn't rather go out and socialize rather than hit the books. It is up to the individual really. Cause and effect- you will get out of it what you pur into it. Everything works well in moderation it's is just a case of finding balance.

Because they're more focused on having a good time and partying than studying and getting a good education. Kinda seems like a waste of $100,000+ if you ask me.

I am agreeing to cyanne there become more mature & study harder but if you the work load of studies & to pay tution then things are diffucult and you might have to rearrange your work schelde and that to both subjects of attaining your tution and to your studies.

The answer is simple. It's because they aren't mature enough to study.
