Because no one has really seen Facism as reality. Communism isn't far off, though. It's one step away from Socialism, which is only half a step away from Liberalism.

I believe there is an equal, legitimate fear of both. The only difference is that the term "fascism" has been used so loosely in recent years that people just ignore it as ignorant rants from far left loud mouths.
The liberals are always calling conservatives fascists. However, we know they are not. I don't believe anyone in our government has a fascist mindset - in any of the three branches.
Fascism is more direct, more apparent and easier to recognize, while communism works under the radar and slowly creeps in under the guise of "let's all work together for the good of everyone." It sounds appealing, and it sounds compassionate, but in the end it is oppressive.
There is an equal fear of both, but in my opinion there is a great threat of communism.

If you think there has never been a fear of the spread of fascism you missed this little event called World War II.

I have seen this fear of "fascism" my entire life, so I'm not sure where you've been.
The problem is in defining the term.
I have seen the term used as a slam against Americans. By 3rd world countries. This may be the reason for the lack of fear.

I constantly questioned how Bedding Barn remains in corporation. it extremely is interior of reach the place I stay, and been there for over 30 years. it extremely is in a terrible region, and there are lots of alternative places to save. greater shops, extra suitable and larger names, or maybe extra suitable small companies that sell furniture interior the section. yet Bedding Barn has continued as an entity probably endlessly. Who the hell buys crap at Bedding Barn?!? The evangelical haunted house is the Bedding Barn of haunted properties. i'm taken aback they have not had to handle "we would like candy" riots.

Because those who use the fear of communism to scare people in our country are closer to being fascists themselves...

because a true communist society doesn't really exist, and it has a tendency to become fascist, if it isn't already fascist trying to appear communist, which is most likely the real deal.
