I'm usually honest, and once it didn't pay off for me. I was a temp and I knew the company liked me and would have hired me as a permanent employee, but I made the mistake of telling them I was going to grad school in the fall. So they kept me as a temp which meant less money and no paid holidays.

It has been my one and only policy. Take it from me, not everybody wants to here the truth, especially if you disagree with them. I have typically been looked at as a know-it-all. I have no friends, other than my wonderfull wife. I try to keep my judgments to a minimum around her. Every once in a while, certain people, such as PhDs need to have an honest outside opinion and are impressed with anyone that is not afraid to give them one. More times than not, it backfires.

Not always... its a wee small thing called tact. For example, I can't stand my best friend's new boyfriend. But if I say to him... I hate your boyfriend, it will only push them together. If I leave it alone, he'll figure him out eventually... as soon as the lust clears his eyes. We have lived this same situation before.

People reject honesty like some strange disease. People believe what they want to in their own funny little minds.

Maybe if someone asks you if they look fat and they do, or if something tastes bad and it does. . .sometimes in certain situations you don't have to be completely honest and still not be dishonest.
