My wife had a sonogram done thursday because she is supposed to be eleven weeks along according to her lmp. Well the sonogram said she is only six weeks 4 days and they could not find a heart beat. Could the dates be off and she really is only 6 weeks four days? And is that too soon sometimes to hear or see a heart beat yet? Has anyone else experienced anything similiar? Thanks for your comments

her cycles are incredibly irregular...could that explain the date confusion?

If her periods are irregular enough, it's possible to have a difference like that in term estimates. If she missed a period, she may have just not ovulated (which is what helps flux the hormones to trigger a period) that first month. Not ovulating, or irregular ovulation, could be why her cycles are irregular to begin with. Trust me, been there. (If it returns like that after the pregnancy, have her see a doctor.)

With a measurement of only 6+4, the best you saw was probably a little jelly-bean looking spot, in which case, no, there wouldn't be a detectable heartbeat.

i'm 10.5 weeks and characteristic an appointment next week. i'd be precisely 11 weeks then. They stated they could attempt to take heed to the pulse on the hand-held doppler yet to no longer be alarmed if we couldn't because it truly is nevertheless almost too early. i'd imagine 13 weeks may otherwise be far sufficient alongside to take heed to it with the doppler you've at your position, it is likely plenty a lot less severe tech than the well being midsection-grade ones. i develop into going to purchase a doppler from Wal-Mart yet then i realized it stated you rather does no longer be able to get a sturdy hear till round 20 weeks, so i determined adverse to it. i does no longer be alarmed if I were you. all the midsection prices you've heard to this point sound universal and healthy so i does no longer imagine you've some thing in any respect to be afflicted about. appears like you've a very healthy toddler. sturdy success!

Well the sonogram may be wrong and if she is only 6w4d then yes the only to see the herat beat would be by an internal ultrasound. Be srue that your wifes LMP was when she said. and talk to her doctor as to why the different dates.

6 weeks is still on the early end to be able to hear, and even see the heart beat. It can be as late as 8-9 weeks before that happens.

its okay.

Your doctor will tell you if there is a concern.

I remember going for an exam and was to hear the baby's heartbeat - the dr. couldn't find it and it was really scary, actually. I was probably two months. The next month, we did get to hear it - but the time in between was murder, waiting to make sure all was ok.
