There's a 3rd option: maybe they haven't stopped... maybe they just got better at keeping it secret....
And you're right. She's not the problem. It's the husband... your husband that's the problem. Anyhow, you can tell the other woman not to speak with your husband all you want.... but if he wants to dip his cookie in someone else's cookie jar, he'll find someone ready and willing.....
As for her knowing better from a woman's point of view, she's kinda on the rebound isn't she....? So I guess she's not thinking straight either.
I really feel sorry for you. It's really terrible to not trust the person you are with.... been there, done that... won't ever do it again!

Things often start innocent. He may feel like he is helping her, etc. But when they start sneaking to talk, the innocense is over. My guess is they are at a cross road. They will either wake up and go separate ways and things will heat up.
If they "end" it, there are often the farewell conversations that confess feelings that haven't been expressed and often take things to the next level.

Sorry to hear that.
It's a shame.
What made it worse was "woman from our CHURCH." Yeah, very religious of you to talk behind someones back and such.
But, seriously, just keep an eye out. And if you think something is weird. Confront him. He's your husband, and he shouldn't be doing things behind your back.
Hopefully my advice (If there was any) helped.
Good luck, and just stay positive.

You over reacted, let him give her a little until she finds someone new, let her join in with the two of you. Show the women a little love, just lost her hubby and kid's, and now you and your husband. Poor thing.

Your confrontation probably just threw a wrench in their arrangement. I would be very wary of the whole thing. Keep your eyes and ears open. Your husband seems to be oblivious to how inappropriate his actions are. If they are "friends" - chances are, they'll just be more careful.

i think they stopped, since they don't know you heard the messages. or more likely, she wanted to stop but he's going to convince her not to. i have respect for her though because she said she was going to respect your wishes. that is very responsible. unless she just said it and she really doesn't mean to.

They may have stopped, but I doubt it will be forever, he is looking..... watch him and don't trust it.
Let me say, you handled it well! Congrats! A true lady!
