Recently, there was a semi work related event in which I was not included. shoud I confront the host as to why especially since the host and I were/are ( I thought) good friends?

So they didn't invite you, so what. There could have been many reasons. Just forget about it.
There are so many more important things in life.

If you are truly upset about not getting the invite, I would ask the friend if he forgot to invite me... If he stammers and is flubbing with words and can't give you a straight up answer then you already have your answer..... If it was an oversight on their part, then he should tell you so and say sorry.
If it was truly a social thing that he wanted to do for business and for getting more contacts then he might have felt there would be pressure if you were there.
I think you should stop trying to "what if" the situation and come straight out and ask them.... quit dancing around the subject and making yourself crazy!!!!!!

I'm always excluded from work related things and it hurts my feelings. I definitely think you should ask the host about it....otherwise, they might keep doing it.

Be the bigger person and act like you don't even know about it. Just know that you may need to make changes in how you do your socializing in the future.
