is it safe to get some engraving done on laptop?while being engraved,will not laptop get hurt?

i have read somewhere that if there is a mark engraved on the body of a laptop then in case of theft it becomes easier to identify your laptop?is it right ?is there any other benefit of getting an engraving on the laptop's body?will this engraving deter thieves from stealing?any other suggestions please?

Sure its safe. just make sure you don't want to sell the laptop later. The marks may hurt resale value.

prolly make them want it more if it looks cool ... i wouldnt let someone marr mine ... but thats just my opinion ..
