And then they get cranky when they get mistaken for Americans abroad.

Can we drop the tired gun control, health care difference?

English Canada the only culture you have is hockey and the cold, and you have to admit that sad reality.

Now what are you going to do about it?

I suggest turn off the t.v. and just say no to American franchises and show some self respect!

Oh yeah, I forgot a third important thing that defines English Canadian Culture

Anti-americanism.

Bravo--

Try and define your culture without bashing the teat that you suck on all day.

Thanks for reminding me.

My southern Ontarian Friend, who says i am French? A French Canadian person wouldn't care about English Canadian Culture. They wouldn't even understand what it is not to have a culture.

Ask a native person what their culture is about and they will tell you.

I ask you again... what is uniquely canadian about your daily life?

Dear Bethy,

The t..v. you watch relfects an american reality that becomes ours only because we do not have a canadian culture machine.

Instead of creating our own art, music and theatre, we are content to buy american timeslots. Sure there is a trickly of homemade stuff there, but how many canadian shows do you watch? Why should canadians care about desperate housewives, and Brad Pitt and all that other drivel? Should we not have our own Icons, our own values, and out own morals?

THere are more canadians out there who know who Brad Pitt is than who know the name of their local poet, local novelist, local actor and musician. Is that smart?
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

After out email corresondence, I understand what you are saying. And I'm inclined to partially agree with you. I does upset me to see my fellow countrymen long to be a citizen of another country. I can assure you, I am not one of them. I like this country of ours. I like our mosaic society and multi-culturalism and what not.

You know, although we are, indeed, bombarded with American programming, I recommend just, like you said, turn off the tv and think about what makes us so much better than other countries. I am not being nationalistic or anything, but I mean think about what great qualities we as a nation have that the states do not.

Is your culture based on T.V and franchises ? Do you know what culture is? Judging by the ignorance of your question I'd say no.Why when I eat at KFC or watch T.V am I not having self respect ? Why do you ask this question in English - Do you not want French answers ? I've heard that Quebec has franchises too - do they exist only to serve the english ?

Actually we send all our talent to the US because they make better money, so really US culture is not US culture but really our culture.

Ever notice that most broadcasters in the US speak with a Canadian accent?

Culture is refinement. It takes generations to get refined. But so long you have an open border with a money minded Culture less Country as neighbor, you may not be able to get your own Culture.

I continuously concept it became any opposite direction round... Asians are the first to go back out with manga, anime, video games, arcades, particular fashions, and so on. and that i see individuals following their lead. maximum of yank subculture is a blend of overseas impacts besides. All of my friends and kin who were born in China are absolutely no longer embarrassed of their very own subculture. i became born in the U.S. and that i appreciate American subculture and the very undeniable truth that i'm attending to appreciate my chinese subculture as well.

Canada and the US have their own cultures---they're called Native American and First Nations cultures.

I am sick and tired of Europeans and Euroamericans thinking that "culture" automatically equals theirs. And they're supposed to be so open-minded? Hardly.
