I suggest you consult with a lawyer on this matter - preferably one from the state he is claiming to divorce you from.

Good Luck!!!

In America if you were married in another country it is not recognized here. If he becomes a citizen and never returns there he can remarry here and it would be legal. However, he can not obtain a divorce decree here for a marriage there. Example is like my sister was married in Florida but they live in Maryland, if she wanted a divorce she would have to obtain it in Florida where she was married. If you choose to stay in there you and want a new marriage you would have to file divorce there. In America if the spouse does not reply to the divorce request within a certain amount of time then the divorce is granted and they have no say in it. See what the law is there.

If he is a citizen of the states he can divorce you according to the states. Philippines may not honor the divorce there. If he is planning on returning there, he may still be married to you according to their laws. It would be best to talk with a lawer to find out the laws and your rights.
Good Luck!

It is clear that he knows you don't know what the laws are. Don't guess or keep asking other people. Go get a lawyer and make sure that you are not being used and mistreated by the man because of your lack of knowledge. My X sister in law is a cool person. Now I love my brother but wrong is wrong no matter who you are. He married her overseas in the military and she knew nothing about the U.S. We constantly told her that you always protect yourself and your kids no matter what. Obtain the correct information from the right source. And just because you are not familiar with our ways and customs does not mean you should be treated like the doormat.

As long as the papers are filed in the USA you can get a divorce in any country as long as one of you is an AMerican citizen. SO you can divorce you and it doesn't matter what the marriage laws are there. But if you and him have children together you can sue him for child support though. SO if he sends you divorce papers it's up to you if you sign them or not.
