If you already have a Bachelor's in any field, you can start teaching right away and work on your certification while working. You have a specific amount of time to get certified though so you can't put it off forever.

Apply at the school board for the county you want to work in. If you have a bachelor's, you can start immediately and apply for a 2year temporary teaching certificate. The DOE website for Florida has great information. If you want to teach in Dade county, go to www.2dadeschools.net. They have information for you as well. We definitely need teachers! They also have a list of the "critical shortage areas", so if you accept a position in one of those areas there is a sign on bonus.

Call one of the local colleges closest to you and schedule an appointment with an adviser to discuss all of the requirements, applications processes, timelines, expectations, and just to ask all the questions you need to make the most informed decision possible. That is what they are there for.
