Instructions:
STEP 1: To wrap a gift, first gather your materials and lay them out on a clean, flat work surface. Remember to remove the price tag from the gift before wrapping it.
STEP 2: Place the box containing the gift along the length of wrapping paper and unroll enough paper to wrap it around the box, leaving at least a 2-inch overlap. Make sure there is enough wrapping paper at each end of the box to cover the ends completely when folded over them.
STEP 3: Use a pencil to mark where this overlap ends and cut the wrapping paper in a straight line at this point. Fold the paper or use a yardstick to guide you in cutting a straight line.
STEP 4: Eyeball the wrapping paper at the ends of the box. Trim away any extra paper so that the remaining flaps are long enough to cover the box but short enough to fold over smoothly into flaps.
STEP 5: Open the paper you've just cut and lay the box in the center of the unprinted side, top down.
STEP 6: Bring one lengthwise edge of the wrapping paper to the center of the box and secure it with tape. Turn the opposite edge of the paper under approximately 1 inch and bring this to the center of the box as well so that it overlaps the first edge, and tape it down.
STEP 7: Position the gift box so that one short end is facing you. Grasp the left and right edges of the wrapping paper and push the sides in so that top and bottom flaps are formed. Make sure the edges are pushed in as far as they will go without ripping the paper. Tape the edges to the box.
STEP 8: Bring the upper flap down against the side of the box, making sure the flap is sharply creased at its folds. Tape the flap to the box.
STEP 9: Bring the lower flap up against the side of the box. Crease and secure it as you did the upper flap.
STEP 10: Repeat for the opposite end of the box.
STEP 11: Position the package so the seamless side is facing down.
STEP 12: Wrap a long piece of ribbon around the gift box lengthwise, then twist the ribbon at the lengthwise seam to wrap it around the box width-wise.
STEP 13: Turn the box over so that the seamless side is facing up and tie the ribbon into a bow on top of the present where the ribbons cross.
STEP 14: If you have a card, slide it under the ribbon and secure it with tape on the underside.

Put a piece of tape as close to the end of the box as you can get it. Then when you fold down the top, make sure it is not longer than the bottom of the box, otherwise it looks bad when you fold it up.
Once you fold down the top, fold in one corner at a time. They should make a triangle shape. Push these against the box, then Pick up your bottom piece of paper and then tape it to the box.
If all else fails, take it to a store and pay for gift wrapping or get bags. Besides, no one will notice how it looks, it is the thought that counts, and they will just rip it away to see what is under all that paper.

Don't start in the middle- place it only as close to the end as necessary or you trim off the ends- before you try taping it. You only need the wrap to be a smidgen over 1/2 the height. Fold it like a paper airplane-from the outside to the middle so it makes an "A" (sorta)-fold the bottom up 1st the top goes over and viola'- you're 1/2 done.

did you ever make a paper airplane? Once you have the box and have paper taped down the middle , (tip add a little tape in the middle seam towards the end of the box to help hold the paper down , now fold the end to make a triangle, do the same for the opposite side (same side of the box) and lift up and tap to the back of the box; repeat for other side , crease the paper when folding to triangle to hold the paper in place; I buy the fabric ribbon with the wire edges so it is easy to formulate a bow (just like tie of shoe) and you can bend and shape it - perfect; practice and sometimes, I get frustrated and tie the bow and it looks perfect; I buy a name ornament (nonbreakable ones) and add that to the bow for extra touch or tie a candy cane on it - Merry Christmas

I've given up on it. My cat lays on my wrapping paper and thinks I am playing. I have started using gift bags instead.
As for your wrapping dliema...leave only about 2in of wrapping paper at the sides. Press your thumbs down in the middle of each side. Keep holding it, while you fold the bottom up. Tape it! Then fold the top down and tape again. Ta-da!

Practice, practice , practice. It can take a couple years to get really good at it. But till then you can add raffia to even the ugliest wrapping job and it will look perfect! Or that fabric ribbon on the rolls, you can find them at the dollar store or any store, just wrap it around square boxes, round gifts, little gifts or huge gifts. It will camouflage a bad wrap job till you learn the technique that works for you.
Watch this crazy wrapping contest see how fast people can wrap and how good they look when they are still not perfect..

The purpose of gift wrapping is to ensure that the item you have provided remains unknown until you wish to reveal it.
Therefore, you must ensure that the wrapping is not transparent.

Go to your nearest big lots or walgreen's and buy up all the xmas bags and tissue paper. Bags come in all sizes -- even one's for huge gifts. It also helps out you and/or the recipient because it makes it easier to carry.
