Christmas is about being happy and if it takes buying your own gifts to be happy, then I see no problem.

When I am madly running from store to store looking for gifts, I often pick up a present for myself. This year's personal present came a little early but it is human nature to be tempted by products or services. I don't have a problem with doing this at all ... people, after all, know themselves best and Santa can't bring them EVERYTHING on their wish lists!

I would think everyone has their own reasons.
Here are some things I think it might be:
They know they aren't going to get that gift from anyone,
what they bought themself was too expensive to ask someone else for,
they need it and are using a Christmas bonus to get it,
it makes them feel good,
they're tired of buying stuff for everyone else and just have to buy something for them,
they want something specific and don't want to ask for it and get the wrong thing,
they bought something for someone else and liked it so much they had to have one for themself,
just for the heck of it.

Basically for 2 reasons:
1) They get a ride and want feel guilty spending the money on something that they otherwise would not buy.
2) Self pity-many reasons for this category; very easy to imagine them. No friends, divorce, something went terribly wrong or not so wrong, depression; "ad infinitum" to the list".

I used to go out and buy my own gifts, wrap them, and put the tag from my (now ex-) husband because he claimed that he "didn't have time" to go to the store....didn't stop him from shopping for his girlfriend though.

i buy christmas gifts for myself why bacause i love christmas its a happy time of year .and it brings our happy santa claus days back it is the one time of year we can be children again and you can get great deals merry christmas

two reasons one this way they know they will get what they want and second reason they may not have anyone who will give them anything
