Which is better? I think Thesaurus is more informative and specific. True?

Uhmm... I'd say false to answer your question but I prefer using the Thesaurus rather than the Dictionary.

The dictionay tends to be more specific and actually describes the word. Moreover it usually provides you with a couple of definitions, synonyms, antonyms and the proper pronunciation.
The latter is a big plus I think ^_________^ --- can't use a word without the proper pronunciation!

But when it comes to compact and efficiency, I'd say a thesaurus would be better. It tends to be lighter eh compared to a dictionary. It would also be much more simpler to understand because it gives you synonyms. If you wanna know more words I'd say go for the dictionary. But another con here would be it's lack of some more difficult words because of it's size.

But then again I could be wrong. I don't really know very much about books based purely on explaining words.

Depends what you want it for. If you want to find the meaning of the word, then a dictionary is better. If you are looking for other words that mean the same thing, then you would look in the thesaurus.

Well it depends on what you're looking for. Like if English (or any language that you're looking up) isn't your first language, a dictionary would be a lot more useful. Oh, and when playing scrabble ^o^

I use Thesaurus a lot though, especially for writing term papers, don't want to use the same words over and over again.

I have a den with a desk and a side filing unit for printer and trays for papers, bills etc. I also have a library unit for books which I love. I am a crossword fanatic so have several dictionaries, language books, thesaurus and fact finders. Apart from that I have a desk lamp and a couple of computers as I can run numerous sessions without slowing the systems down. Loads of cupboards to hide things away. I am a bit ocd so have to be tidy and just keep the odd feminine touch about the place to show it mine

I like them both, dictionary for a basic definition, thesarus for different words that are similar or opposite. They both serve their purposes.
