Yeah that's who I want on the bench - a judge who has done prison time.
All 3rd year law school students usually get a day long tour of a prison in their area, supposedly to heighten their awareness. Since most judges are former lawyers, one would assume that they had that sensitivity training as well.
And the defendants know how terrible it is, but they keep on doing crimes that get them sent back in. So, they must not think it is that horrible.

I'm assuming you are talking about the Judge here. Prison is a punishment given by the Judge. Why would a Judge send himself to prison to find out the conditions of the confinement when he already knows the outcome? Now I grant you that some judges have been in jail possibly when they were juveniles before they turned their life around for the better but I doubt very much if you are going to find a judge on the seat now since they already know how the prison's are. Now judges sometimes visit prisons for reviews or if there are complaints about the conditions of a certain prison but thats about as far as it goes.

I know where you are coming from. Not all prisoners have done that horrid of things "petty crimes" and so the judge should have a inderstanding of what it is like. Like, what if an adolescent does something wrong? The judge should be able to understand how he/she is punishing them
on the OTHER hand. the judge;s DIDN't do anything wrong, so throwing them in is degrading. If you tried to do that, the amount of judges wanting to serve would be almost nil.
I think that judges should spend time AT prisons (observing) not IN prison

What? I must say this is not one of the most brightest ideas I have heard of. Prison, is used for punishment. If the judge hasn't done anything wrong why should they have to spend time in prison?

They as in who .. the judges? What logic are you using to come to this odd conclusion?
Prison is a punishment. What would you be punishing the judges for? Their many years of education in law school? Their tens of thousands of dollars spent aquiring that education? The years they served as lawyers? The job they exceeded at enough to be given appointment as judges? Which one of those classifies them as criminals deserving of prison time?

That is ridiculous. Should a police officer sample crack cocaine and rob a liquor store so he can "sympathize with the addict"?
Prison is for people who have been judged by their peers as guilty of a crime against society, and are incarcerated because of this.

No I work there and every one of them deserve to be there. It is not as bad as everyone thinks. Also it is for people that have commited a crime. The judge has not.

Not if the judge hasn't done anything to go to prison for. Do you think they would be more lenient?
