1 decameter = 10 meters = 100 decimeters

These are prefixes used by the SI units (abbreviated SI from the French name: Le Système international d'unités) in the International Standard Metric System, adopted in 1960, and could equally apply to weight (decagram and decigram), time (decasecond and decisecond) and other standard measurements like amperes, moles, Kelvins or candelas.

The prefix deca- means ten times the basic unit on the scale, the prefix deci- means one tenth of the basic unit on the scale.

If you get confused bertween them, one way to remember it is the athletics event at the Olympics, the decathlon, that Daley Thompson specialised in. It is made up of ten separate track and field events,

yotta Y 10^24
zetta Z 10^21

tera T 10^12
giga G 10^9
mega M 10^6
kilo k 10^3
hecto h 10^2

pico p 10^-12
femto f 10^-15

Actually, no. Those are two different SI units.

Now, look at these conversions of 1 meter:

0.001 km=0.01 hm=0.1 dam=1 m=10 cm=100 mm.

The decameter (dam or dkm) is ten meters.

The prefix deca- means ten.

Milli- means one hundredth, centi- means one tenth, hecto- means one hundred, and kilo- means one thousand.
