I bought some cheap DVD-R's made by "Datawrite" . The first DVD i wrote was an mp3 one which worked fine. since i have tryed to burn DVD and data discs, nero told me of a "power callibration error" (i assume because my sony DVD writer didn't like the disc). Why did i burn in one format but not another??

You get what you pay for in both blank CD's and blank DVD's. I, too learned this the hard way ... but it only took one time. Now I may pay twice as much to begin with, but have very few burn failures and a whole lot less headache! buy name brand, and better quality, you will be much happier!

Also ... beware of big sales on the name brands too .. occasionally if a batch is lesser quality, they will sell them out at discounted prices rather than take a loss on ditching it.

Probably not so much the file format as it is the Bens Bargain Basement blanks! Stay clear of these! My first experience with off brand blanks cost me 2 days of mental anguish and trying to fix my PC to run them! I bought a pack of staples and went thru 25 of them burning the same file as an experiment only to find 30 percent were bad! Youre money ahead to stick with name brand!

yes it sound like bad media. It may have just been a one off that the disc was readable/burnable. The best media i use is ridisc extreme, had no problems at all with these
