my wife asked if i felt guilty but i said no he is a big boy now.

I feel like this is a trick quesion. If he is indeed the teacher, then no - he is old enough to take care of himself and be a big boy and get himself home.

If he is the student, no matter what age, you should make sure he has a ride home. You are the parent it is your responsibility, no matter how old he is.

Beings your son is the teacher and not a student I donot think it hurt him at all. He is a big boy now. Truly he is a man and that should not be a problem
