Is there anyway I can save some of my programs from Windows ME to Windows XP. I want to upgrade on the same computer

While it may be possible to simply upgrade the operating system (put one over the other) I certainly don't recommend it.

I would suggest that you do a complete reformat, then install XP. Which means you will have to have backup disks or copies of the programs you want to use on XP. You can't just copy the program from your computer to CD's or a backup hard drive ... you have to have all the installation files in order to install the programs. You can, however, back up your user date for various programs on CD's and once the programs are re-installed on the new system, you can put the user data in the file.

If you don't have CD's of the programs you want to reinstall, see if you can borrow them from a friend, but record your serial numbers off the programs before you reformat so you can use them.

Do a backup CD of all the programs that you want to run in Windows XP, and then install them when you get your XP. :-)
