I am 20 years old and can't seem to stop dwelling on the past. When I was in 8th grade I moved to a new highschool. I missed being a kid, being nieve, playing all day and I missed my old neighbors. A couple years later my parents got divorced and I missed when they were together. Now that i'm in college I miss high school really badly. I was more involved in school, i had many more close friends, classes were easier, girls liked me and I had a hot girlfriend... now I don't do anything but sit in my room and have no friends. Once I graduate I know i'm going to miss college as well. Am I ever going to be able to get over the past? how?

It's called Life. It must go on. Live it up! Build new memories to dwell on the in the future, then keep on building.

We all miss the past, when times seem simpler, uncluttered and less stressful. You're becoming an adult and this all goes with the territory. You're going through a huge transitional time. Why are you just sitting in your room? There must be loads of things to do at age 20 while in college, like clubs, events, etc. Volunteering (while it sometimes sounds kinda lame) can feel good and you will meet nice people. You might have to force yourself at first. Set a tiny goal for each day, no matter how tough it seems. Seek out help from the college counseling people. Those friends from high school might not stay friends forever, some might, some may not. Don't count on them, you'll develop adult friends now. And smile and be friendly, people will notice and be more likely to approach you than if you look sad.

OH WOW! I never thought I would hear about someone my same age who felt this way! People think I'm crazy when I tell them I feel like I'm getting old, & like every day that goes by is more & more wasted.. How I wish I could go back & do everything over, live it up more, & fix my mistakes.!!

Unfortunately, only in dreams. But I go out, I party, I love the guy I'm with now. You just need to stop dwelling on it & realize, it's over, don't waste another day.! Start talking to people, go out. Don't be hung up over what you can't change. It's not coming out right, because it's hard to explain. But you'll be okay once you realize you should just enjoy the memories & live the moment so now doesn't turn into the same feeling you have for then.

In the bible there is the story of the man Lot and his family who were leaving Sodom and Gomorrah. The angel told them when they leave, not to look back. The story says that Lots wife looked back and was turned into stone.Metaphor:Looking back to things that have passed will only stagnate your future and inable you to move forward, thus turning your life into stone, get it?Don't fear change because each time your situation changed you enjoyed the change because you always want to revisit the place of before.Go forward and make new memories and when you are old you can mentally revisit these places and remember the good times.Good Luck.

It is just wanting the old and familiar back...it is normal. Since you have a good insight into how you feel...try and embrace college life...keep telling yourself I know I will miss it when it is over. Go to college events etc...get to know the people in your class...get a study partner.

Just say over and over I am going to make the best of this. Remember life is about moving on and changes. It happens to all of us. You are growing up and maybe afraid to let go of your child hood. You are a young adult with your whole life ahead of you. You have to live for today...but you have to make a mental effort to do so.

You could chat to your doctor to get help if you really can't move forward...I think you will be fine eventually...Don't sit in your room...find out whats going on in college and join in.

Why don't you start planning for the future. Don't put so much emphasis on the past. Look foward to the future
