I downloaded a driver cleaner which popped up when on computer. I ran it, then my security stopped it. Asked me if i trusted pub said no and told it to remove. Then dialog box asked if wanted to clean it, so said yes but it then said file cant be cleaned. Just closed all boxes. Does this mean programme now hiding in computer?

Take a look in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and see if the program you downloaded is there in the list. If so, simply click remove/uninstall and Windows should do the work for you.
Also, you can press F3 while on the desktop to open the search window. Enter the name / part of the name of the program and search entire computer for any references. If you get any results, use an online search feature of some kind to make sure its not needed by your computer before removing (unless you're absolutely sure)
You can do a full antivirus scan on your pc too, that should pick up any remaining traces of this program if it is a virus!!
Hope this helps :-p

What it was was a program attempting to change your registry - the driver cleaner you installed, so your AV program saw it as a virus since most viruses make registry changes. When you denied it access and told it to clean it, it attempted to delete the driver cleaner but could not. It depends on your AV program what it actually DID with the cleaner. We need more info to solve this one for you.

Ahhhh so it was a virus warning, that makes a little more sense than a driver cleaner. I interpreted that to mean a utility that goes through your system looking for references to drivers that are no longer used.
If you ran it and it did not find anything, you should be ok. You may want to get some sort of adware program so that you can scan for spyware as opposed to just viruses. Many AV programs see spyware as a virus but it really isn't. I use Ad Aware and have included a link to it below in case you don't already have something like this.
Good luck!

To be on safe side, I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus (or, update the current software) soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

If it couldn't be cleaned, you should have quarantined it. Scan your computer with your anti-virus, and if it detects the cleaner again, quarantine it. As you not given the name of that drive cleaner and anti-virus('security' can mean anti-spyware too!), I cannot help you there.

It could be. First port of call is Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove programs and see if it's listed.
Else, try Start - Search & put the name in - make sure it will search hidden files.
