For Windows 98, you want to TURN OFF your file sharing of the folders. Then you want to add a FireWall. Try using Zone Alarm. Get the free version from http://www.zonelabs.com

You see, WIndows 98 and Windows ME are obsolete from a security standpoint. I would use these ONLY for off-line use, or when you WANT to be public. So never use it for on-line buying, where your accounts could be AT RISK.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

SInce the OS is relatively old, security was not a feature in the minds of MS back then. Through the years of being hacked and publicly attacked, they have made concerted efforts to shut down the security holes. As far as I know, there are limited security features in Win98. Second edition may have some, but I am not aware of any.

Get rid of Windows 98 it is not very secure
It is also unsupported by Microsoft and no more security upgrades will occur.
