Underpriviledged children usually come from households where neither parent has received a postsecondary degree, and an increasing number even do not have high school diplomas. Although their parents strongly encourage education they have difficulty backing up their words because they do not understand many concepts to encourage children to stay in school and pursue a higher education; many cannot help their children with their homework assignments. And the majority of these parents have never logged on to the internet and are not technologically sound. These students are at a huge disadvantage when they are compared to students at other schools who have the technology, the lucrative school district money, and the parents that encourage them on a daily basis to do their best at all times. Up to date computers with up to date equipment and software systems are necessary to give them the tools they will need in this world to be able to come to the table and compete for positions in postsecondary institutions and the world of work. It is not a priviledge but a necessity to learn how to live in this world that increases our technological capacity on a daily basis. They already have so many other obstacles against them.

Technology and the Internet are "enablers". They enable the quick gathering of data - source of information and knowledge. These are the currencies of the modern world. Muscle power is no longer the skill that determines wealth e.g as in the Agrarian and industrial era.

School SHOULD be the "great equalizer" when it comes to students. Both rich and poor, all kids need top notch quality education in technology--the future is now.

Remember, "No Child Left Behind".

With computers becoming more integrated with our society, fewer jobs do not require using a computer in some form. Even secretarial and file clerk jobs require the use of computers now where they once did not. In addition, it is necessary to locate and apply for jobs.
