It was probably the smartest signing they could have made. 1 year and an option for 1 more gives Yankees more options in upcomming years. Their staff is going to look like Wang, Mussina, Pettitte, Johnson, Pavano or Igawa. Pettitte gives them a winner and experience in big games. Not only does he have experience in big games he has had success. I think Pettitte really has been the missing link to the Yankees in past years and this deal also makes Yankees the front runners for Roger Clemens when and if he decides to play. If he does i'd imagine it would be mid season like last year. Could you imagine this staff going into the playoffs: Clemens, Pettitte, Wang, Mussina, and Johnson. That would be very hard to beat plus the still potent offense they have. Next year if they pick up Pettittes option which i hope they do, he would be a great mentor for Philip Hughes and Humberto Sanchez who will probably be joining the staff.

It's OK, I guess. I would think that with the money that George is willing to spend, they would try to glom onto more of an upper eschelon pitcher (i.e. Barry Zito), and I'm sure either more signings and trades are to come. But Pettite is still a solid (if aging) pitcher, and if the Yanks are in or close to the lead coming down the stretch, Pettite is like money. Besides, it beats forking over $50-plus million for the likes of Ted Lilly--but then I suppose that's why the Cubbies are the way they are.
Do you think Jeff Suppan would look good in pinstripes?

It is GREAT news that Pettite came back. Look at why the Yankees haven't won a world series since he left, lack of quality pitching in the postseason. There is no pitcher in baseball who is more clutch than Pettite, just look at his postseason numbers.

We needed a Durable lefty starter. Pettite is the only man for the job. 34 is not old especially in today's game. plus he's got the bombers for the run support if he gets into a jam. 15 game winner at least.

I think that it is wonderful that Andy Pettitte signed with the Yankees. I was so sad when he left the Yankees for the Astros, and now I'm overjoyed that he is coming back to pitch for the team that he helped win 4 World Series titles. I think next year is the year that the Yankees win their 27th title. 27 in 2007.

Yes, the move to get Andy Petite might influence the return of the Rocket and then the yankees can return to the glorious days.

Good, I'd rather have good ol reliable Andy Pettitte (elbow or not) than having to put up with Jaret WRONG on the damn mound. Ditto for Carl Pavano. What a wasted contract.
