Sure why not if they are the right person for the job. The United States is far behind in that aspect women/black leaders. Here are a few countries who have already had them.

UK
Canada
Israel
India
South Africa
Germany

It would be nice to see America catch up to the rest of the world.

There never is a time if "America is ready". But Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton both would make outstanding presidents, not just because they are either African American or a female. America is always ready for change. We don't wait for change to happen, we have to do it ourselves. Do you think America was ready for Independence from Britain back in 1776? Of course, it probably was, but we had to go out there and get it. Anything can happen in this country, whether the people are ready or not.

I think we are ready for one, but it needs to be the "Right one".
We could hit both demographics by electing Condi Rice, but her single status would count against her. '

H. Clinton is too divisive, and Bill's issues are still too recent especially after his rant on Fox News w/ Wallace a few months back.

Obama looks the part, but there is the issue of his youth and whether it belies great potential or simply inexperience

Colin Powell would get my vote, but he's stated more than once that he won't, and with his Son having been at the FCC during the Howard Stern hype it would definitely have Stern and his Fan base up in arms.

While positing the question women or people of African decent(I hate the Hyphenated-American/PC attitude of race) why stop there, what of a Jewish president, a gay president, Hispanic president(JEB's son George P. will be the first one in my opinion)

I believe that one of the biases against a female Pres. has nothing to do with Gender, but rather the semantics of what to call her Husband, Language is a very important thing, and I think one of the issues with 'Gay marriage' isn't about the rights of that lifestyle, but in the use of the word 'Marriage' because of its long standing definition as what it has been the shift of that definition is what makes people balk at it.

we have never had a woman president so perhaps it is time for one. If we succeed in impeaching Bush and Cheney, the worst leaders this country has ever had according to every poll taken, we will have a chance to see how Pelosi would do as president. It should be noted that although she states that is off the table, she would appear mercenary to agree to anything which would give her the presidency and it is more to her discretion that she has taken that stand.

Although change happens slowly in the United States and we are not as progressive as other countries when it comes to such things, I do believe we are ready for a change. I would love to believe people would choose the best qualified candidate, regardless of their skin color, gender, sexual orientation or religion. Although, America may not be as open to sexual orientation or non-Christian religions, I do believe they are ready for a minority president.

I'd say they are, just not the two you are thinking of.

I would like to see Colin Powell run and I would seriously consider a woman like Elizabeth Dole on a ticket. She is every bit as much as qualified as Hillary Clinton to hold the seat of President and much more reputable.

The problem is hiding in your question. Why should America be ready for any particular sex or color/race? I hope we don't, but I'm sure many will vote with those particulars in mind...and never mind who would make the best leader for the Country.

The choices will be clouded with things like you raise. Let us hope and pray for the best person to win.

well, if we were ready for the Bushes (dear lord), anything would be a great change. if that person is capable of running our country, and not sending our troops running off to war, i'd vote for them! men would just have to get over the fact that a woman can run the country. it's a mental thing, not physical. there is no reason why it can't happen.

It just might be the time for Hillary, actually. America knows her, and Bill would be there to do the Christmas tour after Barney has retired. It would be an interesting Presidency.
I don't know of a Black who might be able to win at this point.

The problem lies within your question. I does not matter in the least if someone is a woman or has dark skin. We are all member of the same race, the HUMAN race. Categorizing people only creates hate and division.

If someone is qualified, more power to them Unfortunately, neither the republicrats nor the demicans has a viable candidate, period.
