in the case of a provider who is deathly ill - when it is known that death is coming - and it is also known that to prolong the individuals life will drain the resources of those he/she loves who will be left to now fend for themselves - especially if the provider has spent a lifetime building those resources

example - to keep the husband alive the wife must give up the house they own and all their savings - and the wife is still a responsible and needed caregiver or matriarch of the family and has family members depend on her stability for their stability - like what if a young woman is going to college and living at home (with the surviving wife) and losing that housing arrangement would threaten the chances of completing college - which in turn would change so much of her life - (and before the objections get started ...... this is a possible scenario --- if it isnt in your life then count yourself lucky ... but for some it is)

in that circumstnace i think it is rational of the man to choose to die now - rather than later - and i think it is his right - because if your life doesnt belong to you then nothing does

if he has worked all his life to provide this stability and oppurtunity for his family and does not wish to trade all that for a few more months of pain and waiting in a hosital bed then i see no reason to deny him the right to make that decision

I certainly hope that you are not faced with this decision right now. If you are, please seek professional advice. I guarantee that you will not find the right answers on the web. Maybe a teacher or some other authority figure at school. But I suggest that you do it soon before these situations or conditions become to stressful.

Living can be the "crazy choice" when one stops rationalizing and dying can be the rational one when one accepts it as a reality that must be also rationalized. Remember Socrates!

Sorta broad isn't it? One might argue that it is ALWAYS the crazy choice to live and we're all insane.

I think that when the person is too miserable to want to continue and there is no hope of improvement then it is fair to let them go.
