War is brilliant for mobilizing the opposition, whoever they may be. The U.S. has been particularly inept in Iraq. Hussein was a tyrant, but he was also keeping a roiling mass of tensions controlled. The U.S. removed the lid to that pot. Then they dismantled the entire civil service including police, even school teachers, so there was no continuation of social structure.

What was so mind-numbingly stupid that it's hard to believe they didn't do it intentionally, was leaving the borders wide open during the entire invasion. The U.S. created a situation in which extremists could organize and operate at will and gave them a sure-fire recruiting tool as well.

The Bush regime created this situation, but it's the servicemen and women who are paying the real price. This war in unwinnable and their sacrifices have been, and will continue to be, for nothing.

War alone cannot cure Islamic extremism. That being said, there is a very good reason to win in Iraq, despite the media and the Left's run to defeat; If we lose in Iraq it will be because of lack of will alone, and it will be the first time it took so little to defeat us. This will lead to a downward spiral in the power of the USA, with our enemies moving their resources to our own shores. Iran will consume Iraq, in in doing so, will likely eye Saudi Arabia for conquest. Oil will spike in price, and will be over 100 dollars a barrel, gasoline more than 6 dollars a gallon. Hezbollah will join, or work similarily, as Al Qaeda, and will begin attacks in the USA. Terrorist car bombings will occur in our major cities, and we will seem unable to stop them.
To top this all off, we will be forced to go and battle in the Middle east again, with a much more powerful enemy.

The price of failure (surrender) is MUCH higher than victory.

If an "Extremist Muslim" were to attack another Muslim or even an innocent people (such in the case of sept 11th) then we MUST eliminate the problem. It would be our duty as practicing Muslims to defend. Unfortuantly though because my countries response to attacks by these people who claimed to be Muslim is misguided for the most part, as in the case of Iraq, an innocent country now torn to pieces, I have not acted. The reason I put "Extremist Muslim" in quotations is because a true follower of Islam is NOT to act in an extreme manner. Much like the issue in northern Ireland, those who have murdered in the name of God are not acting in a Christian manner, "Muslims" who are unjust and murdering people are not acting in an Islamic manner. Justice is supposed to be a key componant of Islam. Islam is supposed to be a religion of moderation, it is not supposed to be extreme. Here is a hadith about moderation: Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The deen (best translation of this word deen is religion) is easy. Anyone who makes the deen too hard on himself will find it becomes too much for him. So aim for what is right, follow a middle path, accept the good news of the reward for right action, and seek help [to reach your goal by being constant in worshipping] in the morning, evening and some of the night."[al-Bukhari] We are to fight injustice, so it isn't Islam we are fighting but those who are practicing hate, intolerence and oppression but calling it Islam.

Violence begets violence, nothing is worth one life lost in the pursuit of monetery gain, however sometimes you have to stand up to the threat of the offered violence, you cannot apease a nation who is stated categorically that they wish to destroy your way of life, because your way of life is different to thiers, History tells us,for who will listen, that war is not the answer,Herr Hitler taught us that lesson,Iraq should be given back to its people ,they should be encouraged to run thier own lives at peace with the rest of society.
