If you are just looking for the safety of the chair. First be sure the brakes are working well. The foot rests should also be able to lift up and down easily and able to swing open. the chair should fit the person comfortably so make sure the backrests are proper the arm rests are in the right location and the person can move the wheels easily.

Find and read the owener/user paraphanalia, phone your social work emergency number, the red cross may be able to help. Don`t even use the chair as even asking such a question in the first instace really would worry most people.

If i was you i would go down a ramp steps are not safe for a wheelchair.

go to some one you trust and have them check it out i have friends that ask me to do it all the time so if something goes wrong then i can fix
