You go in the kitchen and start cooking something, and then about halfway through realize that you are missing a key ingredient which there is no substitute for. Then you either have to stop what you're doing and run out to the store to get it, or trash the whole project.

Grrrr............

I seldom cook for the family but my wife and daughters experience this about 10 time a week. I have seen my wife have to go to the store once and go right back because she forgot something. She didn't forget the $150 worth of stuff she didn't go after but the item she made the trip for, oh yeah. And it happens to her all too regularly.

And, I ask you, have I ever been able to get her to make a list? Of course not, I am the one with the bad memory, that's why I need lists.

Isn't it aggravating? I usually just improvise, so I don't have to run to the store. Some of my best recipes were when I replaced one ingredient for another!

I went to make cornbread last week and then realized I used all the eggs on breakfast the morning before. It sucks I just went to bed instead.

If that happens, I borrow the ingredient from a neighbor. I also let them borrow stuff from me if they are lacking a specific food for a recipe...

I make sure I have all the stuff! But when I'm gonna cook, I prepare everything at the last minute! I do everything at the last minute!
