these days, kids are living in a world of materialistic and some would add greed-ridden culture, which in particular seeks to exploit kids and thus, instead of lecturing them that hard work pays off in the end, such pandering and persuasion leads to kids urging their parents to buy for them the latest games console or whatever. and for society, it seems to think it is worth compensating for all that by abandoning all principles and standards and target the most vulnerable of all consumers- children. people will argue the commercialisation of Xmas in today's era,- with adverts and companies urging us all to rush out and buy their products- has led to the decline in moral standards and the further deterioration of the true meaning of Xmas. most of today's generation of children think that money is the be all and end all thing, thus implying it buys them happiness. when really happiness comes from within yourself and not from possessing and spending economic and social capital.

A lot of children do expect too much, but this is only because it's what their parents have trained them to expect from a very early age. It used to be that presents were only received on birthdays and at Christmas, and then quite modest gifts. Now, however, many children (not all) seem to receive 'things' all year 'round and Christmas spending has gone crazy! But are these children any happier than those who receive less? I think not.

Simple answer is YES.
I see kids driving brand new cars all the time going to school. Not just new, but cars like Mercedes, or Lincolns. Give me a break already. Yes I know the car/s was most likely registered to the mom or dad. BUT the kids I am speaking of drive these cars every single day to school. What parent out there has so little need of their own car that they can allow the kid to take it to school 5 days a week?

Without doubt kids are driven by greed nowadays. Personally I feel this is what contributes to many of the problems in society now xxx

Probably, but I expected much when I was little as well. So, that's how it is.

a society and culture based solely on material accumulation is doomed from the git go. "stuff" never makes you happy. Worse yet is the idea that children are entitled to things.

Entitlement is a dangerous road.

No, they're spoiled. Parents let kids get away with anything they want nowadays. Most kids have no idea what its like to go without.

They expect what they think they can get. If we don't know how to respect money then this will pass on to them, and judging on the average debt per household in England being over 20k (excluding mortgages) then it will only get worse.

I believe so but can we really blame the kids when it is the parents who give in to their every whim and spoil them rotten.
