likewise, the worst culprits i can think of are madhouses's madonna covers- be it like a prayer, la isla bonita etc-, dj sammy's heaven originally done by bryan adams & don henley's boys of summer, flatpack's sweet child o' mine (yes the guns 'n' roses classic) queen's another one bites the dust, M. ward's version of david bowie's let's dance, N-trance's stayin' alive by the bee gees or rod stewart's do you think i'm sexy

i'm not talking about sampling old tracks and making a completely different record and giving it a different title, but actual renditions of pop, rock anthems. i shudder every time i hear any of those tracks. do you have any other examples like the ones i've stated? if so what are they and how bad-or indeed how does it fair to the original? what do you think of dance acts doing dance-type versions of classic songs, in general?
btw, if you want to find out how bad they can be go on limewire or some other mp3 site & type in the name of one of the songs & listen to it

Can't stand it with rock, the vamped up sweet child of mines, was appaling. Artists need to make their own music instead of p****ng up older classic songs. i wouldn't even call people who revamped songs artists

I mean girls aloud have a cover of Tiffany's I think we're alone now!! I mean come on!!

The best dance covers I have heard are:

Max Graham VS. Yes : Owner of a Lonely Heart
Mylo: In My Arms

some of the covers are really bad and i think i could probably do a better job. but some covers are alright but i think that some groups i.e westlife and girls aloud do cover just cause they want to make money and they cant be bothered to write new ones!!!

I just plain don't like most of the music from that era.

The production on these records is what's so awful about them. Flat vocals, tinny beats from a Yamaha keyboard by the sounds of it.

What I also hate is when they take one line from a good song and just repeat it over and over again instead of covering the whole song: "Take me to the clouds above/Take me to the clouds above/Take me to the clouds above." What talentless laziness!

I like covers. Its a great song to begin with for the older people, and the new artists cover it so younger people can enjoy how great it originally was, with a new twist.

Why, it sounded like bits of old tunes played to a fast 4/4 beat.

I couldn't agree with you more. I hate to hear songs that I loved being ruined like that.
