he is mentioned in a reggae song - "The Rivers of Babylon". The text comes from a psalm, I think. The line is "How can we sing King Alfa's song in a strange land?" I am trying to discover who King Alfa was, or what the name refers to.

Maybe Jesus ?

Jesus is the King of Kings

Alpha (rather than Alfa) is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and was used to symbolize Jesus.

The song is based upon Psalm137 from the Bible:

1By the rivers of Babylon—there we sat down.
We also wept when we remembered Zion.

2 Upon the poplar trees in the midst of her
We hung our harps.

3 For there those holding us captive asked us for the words of a song,
And those mocking us—for rejoicing:
“SING for us one of the songs of Zion.”

4 How can we sing the song of Jehovah
Upon foreign ground?

The Boney M song goes thus:

By the rivers of babylon, there we sat down
Ye-eah we wept, when we remembered zion.

By the rivers of babylon, there we sat down
Ye-eah we wept, when we remembered zion.

When the wicked
Carried us away in captivity
Required from us a song
Now how shall we sing the lords song in a strange land

When the wicked
Carried us away in captivity
Requiering of us a song
Now how shall we sing the lords song in a strange land

Let the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart
Be acceptable in thy sight here tonight

Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts
Be acceptable in thy sight here tonight

By the rivers of babylon, there we sat down
Ye-eah we wept, when we remembered zion.

By the rivers of babylon, there we sat down
Ye-eah we wept, when we remembered zion.

By the rivers of babylon (dark tears of babylon)
There we sat down (you got to sing a song)
Ye-eah we wept, (sing a song of love)
When we remember zion. (yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah)

By the rivers of babylon (rough bits of babylon)
There we sat down (you hear the people cry)
Ye-eah we wept, (they need their God)
When we remember zion. (ooh, have the power)

NO KING ALFA - LOL
