Hi, why did the myth propagate that in the desert, the days are hot and the nights freezing cold? I lived in the Middle east and the summer nights were downright hot (80's and 90's for the lows). The winter nights were cool but then the days were pretty mild too. So where in the world can you find burning hot days and freezing cold nights in the SAME season? Does such a place even exist?

Check out the Gobi desert. Some of the hottest days and the most freezing temps at night.

Average winter temps there can get down to -40 C. That's butt cold! It's a typical feature of deserts; hot days, icy nights. Even Death Valley in California has wildly varying temperatures, day vs night.

"On July 10 1913, Death Valley reached 134°F (56.7°C), and this held the record for the highest measured temperature on Earth....In 1913, the same year which saw the hottest day, the temperature reached a record low of 15°F (-9°C)."

most deserts with sand are hot during the day and freezing at night. the air is very dry so heat is easily lost after the sun sets. that and the added no clouds in the sky to keep heat in contribute to freezing nights.

while cold deserts (artics) are always freezing
