oh, definitely. although, i think the the difference lies in how women and men display pride. the moment a woman shows too much pride i think they're kind of shot down by the women around them for being arrogant or stuck-up. ideas of being humble & chaste still seem to underlie our behaviours (or at least, i believe this).

girls might seem to lack egos because we have all our self-esteem issues, but that just means we're covert & sensitive about our self-importance. my ego has a fantastic memory for less-than-flattering comments & will take a greater beating from my own opinions than anyone elses. the fact is most girls are like this; flattery is fleeting but criticism can last a lifetime. why bother being proud when it can't last?

that in itself panders to the ego, because we're always analysing our own worth, even if we're not necessarily inflating it. we spend a considerable amount of time thinking about what other people think of us, and we care. a lot. that in itself is a kind of self-absorption, even if it's not one of self-importance.

i think the above perpetuates the idea that we're free from an ego, but really we're the worst kind of egomaniacs because we're never satisfied.

(i'm afraid i've never gone by the name gillian before, but it's quite a coincidence. you should take this as a sign to read kerouac. thank you for the compliment- even though most of my face is behind a post-it, my ego really appreciates it. sorry for writing so much, but there are a multitude of things i could write on this topic & it's difficult to restrain myself!)

Oh yes we do! And if they claim that they don't they're lying.
We may say that a man has a bigger ego, but that's just a saying.
Men and women have different types of ego though, as we are a completely different species.

[Edit]
An Egoist is the one who is devoted to one's own interests and advancement, usually called an egocentric person. According to the doctrine of Egoism individual self-interest is the actual motive of all conscious action, that individual self-interest is the valid end of all actions. As far as human accurate scientific knowledge is concerned, this applies equally to both men and women, but scientifically unqualified and very personal opinions based upon personal experiences and knowledge, may differ from this universal principle; may be men should be called egotistical, and women egoistical, but again this is only my own humble suggestion.

I think women are better equipped to suppress, or in good terms deal with, the issues of their ego than men are to deal with theirs. The role of women in the creation of mankind signifies endurance, forbearance and patience, whereas men are known, or are accustomed to, to behave and act somewhat entirely differently. May be this is why there is still abuse, violence and discrimination targeted at women even today, so much so that in many societies the proper right of women are not even recognised.

For that, I do not think that human conscious is developed well enough to be able to see people beyond matters of gender, race and culture. But unlike others, the issues of gender cannot be resolved merely by negotiation or mutual compromises. The issue is most fundamental to human existence, and can only be dealt with by being able to see mankind in an entirely different light. Now, what could that mean? I would like to know myself. Presently, this is the world where egocentric behaviour in men is more likely to be accepted, and even prised highly, as matters of honour, courage, power and prestige, whereas there is little appreciation for such attributes in women – historically, no one has ever sung of such characteristics as heroic in women. It is more praiseworthy in women if they were able to sacrifice, stay loyal and endure hardships with courage and fortitude on the behest of their men.

This I hope might help you decide why your question was removed by yahoo; findings might interest you. Please, let me know if you do!

Nah... not ambitious enough... not even the most hardened of us... you see, no matter what we shout about equality, most of us still want the little cottage and the man and family.... but, we do have a lot of:

'e goes' in our lives... though...

when the males egos move them on...

that's much more painful!
