Ignore the question, dodge it, or change the subject.
"I really couldn't say" implies incomplete knowledge, but can convey, that something is preventing me from discussing that question.
I can also tell the asker that the question is either inappropriate or that I really don't want to talk about it with them.

It depends how close I am to the person. Just an acquaintance - I'll change the subject. But a close friend or family member - I'll make myself give them a straight answer, because I'd expect them to do the same. I'm a little too blunt and honest, but that's not always a bad thing.

I always answer a question with a question it always works for me and puts the person leveling the question on the back foot.

If its someone I know well then I'll just say 'i dont know' or just be silent and look away. If its someone else I usuauly just make up any lies, if i dont want to tell the truth

No soup for you! Next!
Actually, I just shrug my shoulders and look at the questioner.
