1966 saw a good England football team win a world cup, since then nothing, have we no world class players to pose a threat on the pitch. As for the rugby team, a very good team won the world cup but since then have failed to produce any real threat to the Southern Heisphere teams. Then the cricket team, for 18 years England failed to win an Ashes test, then suddenly a win followed by OBE's and MBE's. Now the Ashes are lost, but will we have to wait another 18 plus years before a win.

Maybe England isn't (or perhaps never was) as good a sporting country as you would like to think. Don't let your natural bias cloud your judgement.

England (the country that gave soccer to the world!) has won only one World Cup in Soccer. How many have Germany/Italy/Brazil/Uruguay won?

Because where crap, no the reason for football is to many foriegn players in the premiership they come over and get better and better whilst the english lads dont get a look in. The other problem is CHELSEA they buy up all the talented english players then leave them on the bench or in the reserves Shuan Wright Phillips is a prime example played for man city got into england squad then chelsea buy him 4 21 million quid and now he sits on a bench. Another possible reason for football is the english players that do play for their teams are far to bothered about there next paycheck so dont bother playing their hearts out. If you want proper football watch league 2 stuff its proper football

Because schools do not seem to encourage pupils to play competitive sports any more. Too frightened of being sued if a child gets injured taking part in PE or games. Plus the selling-off of playing fields and forbidding kids playing football in the street (where the basics of the game were always mastered), and the way that politically-correct LEA's dictate there should not be winners and losers in life. There seems to be no end to this stupidity. When will it ever end I ask you?

It's because the selectors have one track minds and they can't see wood for trees.
