if the birth of Jesus was 25th December, surely that should be the 1st of January because the christian calendar started at the birth of Jesus so why isn't it the 1st of Jan and why 25th Dec? surely teher must be a reason of this 6 day gap. any suggestions/ideas?

Nobody knows when Jesus was born. The best guess is early October. In Western Christianity, we celebrate his birth on 25th December because the Roman church took over a pagan festival in the 4th century. The Christmas season runs from 25th December to 6th January.

The Roman calendar started on 1st March (September comes from the Latin for 7th month). The Celtic calendar started on 1st November (The day of spirits we now call Hallowe'en was the last day of the year). The Germanic Tribes (including the Saxons) started their year on what we call 24th March. We didn't settle on 1st January until the middle ages and that was because it was the beginning of the month that fell within the Christmas season.

Jesus was most likely born late spring or early Autumn - the christians took over a Roman festival called Saturnalia which is where we get the feasting and merriment and drinking etc. Christians hijacked many Roman and Pagan festivals whilst trying to convert people, it was easier to rename an already exisitng festival rather than try and ban people from celebrating the ones they were used to and create new ones instead

He was'nt born on the 25th, the Romans changed it to coencide with another festival.
They also lost four years when copying the calendar back in the day, forget the name of the priest.
You need to look into the coptic side.

Teaching say that he was born somewhere in the Autumn months, maybe October, November, due to the months were shorter, and there was thirteen months not twelve. eventually we moved them about for the farmers working in the fields so they had more light hours to go by., and shorter days. Changed to 12 months with 30 - 31 days making it move forward and backward.

He was born in the spring and probably severn years later. Then christians decided to take over a pagan holiday in winter that was when the sun came close to earth as they used it for when God's son came to earth.
