Because it takes a long, long time for someone to get recognized all over the world, and you need like a million billion people and almost all the generations to buy your book before you can say it's a classic.

Because the classic era is over.this era wud include writers like Hardy,Austen,Dickens,etc.We're now in the postmodern era and these classic novel authors simply have no place here, just as it wud b difficult 4 us 2 figure ourselves living at their time.

it is usually edicate that most litterary works of merit don't become great until a grace period of 40-50 years. and i mean these are the GOOD books, the ones that teachers teach out of.

also, a lot were crazy too... just look at ernest hemmingway...
