I'm guessing you mean the sign for pounds sterling. On a Mac you hold down option and then press 3. Like this £. Maybe it's the same with a PC.

shift 8 * that thing? or shift 3 is #. can adjust the keyboard from your system menus. best to use the same setting with the keyboard you have though
there isn't a british pound key (money) on an american keyboard

On an American PC there is no simple way to get the "£" sign.
I would simply suggest copy and pasting as the simplest method.

Symbol
*Enter the number code 4,11 in the upper right corner of the symbol box.*
Enter
There should be a character or symbol map somewhere in your comp. Good Luck!

You can do it as long as you have Microsoft Word. Here's how:
-Open Word.
-click "insert"
-click "symbol"
-under "font", scroll to "normal text" and clic it.
-under "subset", scroll to "currency symbols" and click on it.
-There you will find your "₤" symbol.
-Click on it to highlight it.
-Then click on insert.
If you want it somewhere else other than the Word document, you will have to cut and paste it, which is what I did to get it here. ₤
