Not only as a military power but as a leader in trade and industry.

It's all about the power!
We have NO power over North Korea. They have no economical ties to us or the rest of the world save China. All we could do is send in troops... and we won't be sending troops into China's backyard anytime soon.

In contrast we have some economical pull in Iran, and have shown a willingness to send troops to the region.
