hey, i need help, like rite now. please help..

i had 2 memory cards of 256mb ddr ram in my computer.

i added about 512 more, it was working fine. w/ 768mb.

i have 4 slots, two blue and two black. so i try to add another 256 and third black slot, and my computer shut down. started acting weird. so i removed the 256 from black slot. and it's working fine?

was 1024mb ram too much for my computer???

how do you find out that?

Obviously you've seen the motherboard. On it you will notice the maker, i.e. ASUS, TYAN, BIOSTAR, etc. Next to the maker name you should see the model number and possibly a rev. (revision) number. Record these and go to the respective manufactor's site and find your model and view specs for your motherboard. It'll tell you max memory capacity and the type you need.

There IS a maximum amount for each slot of each motherboard! Check the manufacturers website or go to a memory site like crucial.com and download and run their scanner and it will tell you what fits. You do NOT have to buy the memory from them to use their scanner, just write down what the specs are and then shop online, on in a store. for what you want at the best price.

I don't think so. There's no maximum limit for RAM in a computer. Probably you were just putting the RAM card on the wrong slot.

go to the manufacturers website they will have all of the specs. for your machine including the max ram it can take.
